Baraná Trio & Sanem Kalfa

The Turkish/Dutch group Baraná has gained a national and international reputation over the past couple of years.

In Gurbet (‘Nostalgia’) the artistic leaders Steven Kamperman and Behsat Üvez work with their acoustic trio including accordion player Bart Lelivelt and a very special guest vocalist. Sanem Kalfa won the International Montreux Jazz Vocalists concours in 2010. Her warm voice, her flawless intuition and the natural integration of her Turkish roots impress the audience every time.

The music of Baraná Trio and Sanem Kalfa travels along lost Turkish songs about wistful longing and exuberant reunions. And Baraná wouldn’t be Baraná if they wouldn’t place those songs in an exciting new light.

Warm-blooded and breathtaking, is how De Volkskrant headlined a five-star review about Baraná at the end of 2011, and they couldn’t have said it any better.
